We've done a lot of road trips during our journeys. We've taken All kinds Of Road Trips, from epic ones lasting six weeks to one-day scenic drives that offer stunning scenery . We've seen it every single time and here's the top road journeys Dave me and myself have taken all over the world.
1. Route 66 -- Arizona
Route 66 is the road journey of dreams. We've all heard the beautiful tune from Nat King Cole and fantasized about taking a trip on Route 66 one day. We had the opportunity. It does live up to its name. Although, only small portions of it are worthwhile to drive.
2. Pacific Coast Highway - California
It's one of the most thrilling drives within the United States. The drive begins in Monterrey and then winds its way down highway 1 all the way to Los Angeles. It is recommended to stay overnight there. Monterrey or Carmel near the Sea. Kayaking is an excellent activity within the Marine Reserve located in Monterrey along with Surfing at Carmel.
3. San Francisco to LA - National Parks Route
This is the most epic American route. Don't follow a straight line starting from San Francisco to Los Angeles and then go all the way between. This road trip will take you across four states and shows the very most beautiful American's National Parks and cities.
4. Hana Highway - Maui Hawaii
It's a quick trip, but everyone who travels to Maui is raving about it. Hana Highway. The (mostly) single-lane road is a day trip that runs across the North Coast of the Island starting from Paia up to Hana.
5. Dempster Highway - Yukon
For the ultimate road-trip adventure, there's no much that can compare to that of the Dempster Highway. It is possible to drive towards the Arctic via this Dempster Highway. This 736 km stretch of road connects the extreme Arctic within Inuvik within the Northwest Territories, to Dawson City in the Yukon. It traverses the equator and is the most stunning scenery on earth. There are caribou, grizzley bears , and other wildlife as you travel and it's absolutely stunning.
6. Fundy Trail - New Brunswick
Province of New Brunswick houses one of the most breathtaking coastline drives of Canada. The province is famous for its Hopewell Rocks we drove the Bay of Fundy Parkway and observed huge sea cliffs that plunge into the ocean.
7. Cabot Trail Cabot Trail Nova Scotia
The Cabot Trail can be described as considered to be one of the country's Ultimate Scenic Highways. The trail is located within the Nova Scotia's Cape Breton Island, it is full of coast hikes, sea cliffs beaches, and unspoiled wilderness. There are moose to be seen on the Skyline walk, whales the kayak and on scenic boat rides and breathtaking sunsets over in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
8. Sunshine Coast - British Columbia
A 90-minute ferry journey from Vancouver will take you to the beginning of the Sunshine Coast drive at Gib sons Landing. The adored Canadian TV Series, The Beachcombers was shot here for over 20 years!
9.Wild Atlantic Way Ireland
The Wild Atlantic Way runs 2500 km along to the Western Coast of Ireland. There's a lot to do and see along this road. Every day, you can enjoy breathtaking views of massive sea cliffs, breathtaking beaches, and an incredibly rich traditions. This is a journey that packs a powerful impact with a road that runs along all of the west coastline in Ireland.
10.North Coast 500 Scotland
The North Coast 500 is Scotland's alternative to American's Route 66. It is a place of legends with castles, breathtaking landscapes along the coast, and well-known whisky distilleries along the narrow single track lanes The North Coast 500 is the ideal road trip for those who love travel.
11. Amalfi Coast - Italy
I believe the most beautiful road excursion within Europe would be the Amalfi coast. We were captivated by the road trip between Sorrento up to Ravello. There's a reason why this route with the most beautiful sea cliffs in the world is featured in many films. These towns, and the lookouts that line the coastline are like something from the realm of fairytales. They're just stunning.
12. Causeway Coast - Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is so amazing for driving , and its main tourist attraction lies on the Causeway Coast. It is the Causeway Coastal Route is filled with stops after stops of breathtaking scenery and stunning sights. It's an easier route as compared to it's counterpart, the Wild Atlantic Way and it is possible to complete in just few days.
13. Bavaria - Germany
The drive along the Bavarian Alps will make you swoon. Our journey through the Alps began in Munich which is where we drove to some of Germany's famous sites. Take a journey through fairytale castles and the top mountains of Germany to enjoy some of the best drives in the world. Visit The Olympic city in Garmish Parten kirken tour the oldest monastery and the oldest brewery in the world and trek through the stunning landscape of lakes, rivers, valleys and mountains.
14. Ring Road - Iceland
The Ring Road Route 1 of Iceland covers the entire country, giving drivers the opportunity to explore every corner and crevice. It is typical for people to travel the route between 10 and 2 weeks, but in order to truly explore Iceland effectively, you need to be able to spend longer. We drove around Iceland clockwise beginning from Reyjavik Vik and then turning north to view the remainder of Iceland.
15. South Island - New Zealand
The best method to get across New Zealand is by driving independently. We explored through the South Island two ways, by bus using The Flying Kiwi which was affordable and an excellent opportunity to experience the best of New Zealand however, once we had taken longer to explore the area with our own campervan this is when the real road trip through New Zealand began.
